… a man cannot inquire either about what he knows or about what he does not know – for he cannot inquire about what he knows, because he knows it, and in that case is in no need of inquiry; nor again can he inquire about what he does not know, since he does not know about what he is to inquire. Plato, Menon, 80e

The easily integratable Online Services enable bookshops and publishing houses to keep their specialist customers informed about new publications in their respective interest areas easily and with no outlay of time and effort on their part. Each Online Service is designed to fit exactly into the service provider’s corporate web appearance and sent. As a result of the Online Service fitting seamlessly into the website, the customer has the impression as if the editorial processing work had been done by the service provider. In actual fact, there is no editorial work to be done by the bookshop or publishing house.
The Newsletter and RSS Feeds alerting services are used to pass on information about new publications and advance notifications. There are also suggestions lists containing the back list and which, for example, can be used as a starting point for monthly subject letters. For each of the services mentioned there are online administration and reporting tools for statistical evaluation and follow up.
Bookshops and publishing houses receive a complete copy or even excerpts of the NEWBOOKS subject book catalogues in order to manage these via their own catalogue data management. Updates are provided during the night via FTP. A systematic mapping is also obtainable (e.g. BIC mapping) in order to be able to reproduce subject area designators already in use and so be able to organise a standardised target classification.
Housing / Data Management
With the depth of the indexing on offer, new research tools or those already in existence can be supported to the full. NEWBOOKS produces to order individual and effective information, presentation and procurement platforms oriented to the search requirements of specialist subject customers.
NEWBOOKS also offers the Housing of subject book catalogues belonging to bookshops. In this case our catalogue editing team takes over the data maintenance and the hosting.
In addition to system development and the housing of specialist book data banks, we also offer the development and contents monitoring of subject portals. When this is done, the respective subject portal can be organised, hosted and its contents looked after by drawing on several external data sources (Mashup).
We will gladly advise you as to how you can utilise our subject book catalogue and IT services successfully in your business. If you are interested simply make an appointment for a telephone consultation. We look forward to dealing with your Query!
